Abstract
This study examines the poverty situation and characteristics by gender using data from the 2018 single-parent family survey, and divides them into poverty groups, poverty boundary groups, and non-poverty groups to analyze the effects of individual factors, family factors, and institutional factors in multi-directional logistic regression analysis. It was confirmed that a significant effect of the status of employment one year before becoming a single parent was confirmed on the poverty status of female single-parents. It was confirmed that family factors such as number of children, youngest age, and other family status had a greater effect on the poverty status of female single parents compared to male single parents. In addition, it was confirmed that among the institutional factors, vocational and job training experience had a significant effect on the poverty status of single mothers. On the other hand, in the case of male single parents, it was confirmed that individual variables constituting human capital such as age, educational background, subjective health status, and current occupational status were significant influencing factors and had a greater effect than female single parents.
Based on this, it emphasized the need for policy responses by poverty status and gender-sensitive approaches in single-parent family policies.
